It’s not how we start but how well we finish. We need to focus our vision on where we are going in 2021. We all need clarity so that we can run. When we have a focus, we are more likely to put up with hardship and not to give up. We need to be discerning and to choose wholesome goals, not goals that the world tells us that we need: fame, power, money. We need to focus on renewing our mind so that we do not conform to the ways of this world. When we focus, we will be aligned with what is truly important in our lives.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12: 2
One way to focus is to remove all the distractions that are now presently consuming us. What we need to fast from depends on what is consuming our lives and distracting us from our focus. These may be some things we need to fast from: binge watching, social media, bad company, cigarettes, alcohol, opinions, gossip, slander. We need to fast so that we can redirect our focus from what we consume to become aware of our real needs and the needs of others. It is easier to dull our senses and passively consume, but in order to make meaning out of life, we need to sharpen our senses, focus and create rather than consume. A diet is about losing weight, but a fast is about throwing off the things that weigh us down.
Cheers to the best year yet!
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
